THE GUARDIAN, Columbia, South Carolina, Feb. 25, 1864

* Rare Confederate title
* General P. G. T. Beauregard

A rare title from the Confederacy. Among the front page items are: "The American War in England" "Stafford's Louisiana Brigade" "Interesting Letter from Gen'l Beauregard" which includes the text of a form letter he sends to families who had a family member injured in the military, signed by him in type: G. T. Beauregard; "The Holcombe Legion Cavalry, S.C. V." There are also various "Telegraphic" reports with subheads: "From East Tennessee" "From Mississippi" "From Virginia" "From the Front" which is at Dalton; "From the North" and more.
The back page is mostly taken up with: "Address of Congress to the People of the Confederate States" which relates to the war. Also: "Suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus" and other items.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper of folio size, some weakness & minor perforation at the central vertical fold, otherwise good condition. Has a one column masthead as was typical with many Southern newspapers late in the war as newsprint became scarce.
