THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, February, 1735  Among the articles noted in the table of contents are: "Corsican Chiefs & Genoese Governors" "Band of Patriots, their Practices" "Woolsey & Cromwell, how Sacrificed" "Scripture Inspiration Defended" "Dissertation on Flogging Banter'd"  & more.
Near the back is a section headed: "Monthly Intelligencer" with news reports from various parts of England & Europe with one report beginning: "From Corsica that the male-contents had beaten the Genoese troops & shut up all their forces in Bastia, which they were preparing to besiege...".
Complete in 56 pages with full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, measures 5 by 8 inches, very nice condition.
This is from just the fifth year of this magazine's existence & before any maps or plates were included.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
