January 29, 1779

THE EDINBURGH ADVERTISER, Scotland, Jan. 29, 1779  the front page has a: "Letter to a Member of Parliament" which being: "They who know...that by the invincible influence of the Congress & the alliance with France, America will not depart from its declaration of independence..." with much more (see). Inside has close to a full page of news reports on the war in America, a few bits including: "...the great dissensions prevailed among the officers in the rebel army...writing a letter to a confidential friend expressing his opinion that General Washington was unequal to his high command...". Also a letter from New York which includes: "Our army & navy here have been very inactive all this year...The Congress, finding it impossible to maintain Burgoyne's army in New England, thought proper to march them to Virginia, & Gen. Clinton having been informed that they were to pass the Hudson's river...embarked about 5000 of his best troops & proceeded up the river with all expedition...Washington is returned to his strong holds in the Jerseys with about 5000 men..." and: "...positively asserted that the Royal army is in possession of Georgia..." with much more (see for portions).
Complete in 8 pages plus a four page "Supplement" issue, 8 1/2 by 11 inches, very nice condition with a bit of light dirtiness to the front page only.
