Printed "somewhere in France" during the invasion...

Item # 587588

July 27, 1944

THE STARS & STRIPES, Continental Edition, July 27, 1944

* Rare World War II title

We have had many editions of this famous military newspaper but I don't believe we have offered the "Continental Edition" from during the invasion of France & before the liberation of Paris. As noted in the masthead this edition was: "Printed 'Somewhere in France' " and is just the vol. 1 no. 21 issue. The conditions under which this edition was published were obviously less than ideal as this is complete as a single sheet newspaper & without photos. The headlines read: "U,.S. Thrust Engulfs Marigny, St. Gilles" "Berlin Calls Hitler Attack British Plot" "Yanks Drive 4 Mi. Wedge In Nazi Lines" & more, with the balance of the front page reporting on the war as well.
Complete as a single sheet issue, very nice condition.
