Captain Cook... Items on the Revolutionary War...

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, Feb. 1, 1780  A page 2 report reads in its entirety: "Capt. Cook's rising, from being the son of a day labourer to the distinguished rank he held in the British navy, is a proof what superior abilities can do, when they have a proper field to display themselves in. For what of this, 'many a rose, as the poet has finely expressed it, blooms unseen', and many a Cromwell passes in silence to the grave, unknown to the distinguished hand of posterity." This same page also has some Revolutionary War reports concerning West Florida, including: "...the reports of Pensacola, the capital of West Florida, being taken, meet with little or no credit..." with more, plus another report telling that: "...General Clinton, after leaving a sufficient force at New York, has taken with him the rest of his army to Virginia. By this means the rebels will be put between two fires, if they continue in force against General Prevost, besides, this movement will make our strength in the southern colonies an overmatch for any attack...some of our provincial corps had fallen in with a detachment from General Washington's army...". And the back page has: "...that Sir Henry Clinton & Lord Cornwallis were about to embark with 10,000 men on board the transports...Capt. Christian late of the Vigilant when he commanded at Beaufort, & who brought the last naval dispatches from Savannah...".
Eight pages, 8 12 by 11 inches, very nice condition.
