THE NEW YORK TIMES, June 18, 1940 A three line banner head: "FRANCE ASKS PEACE, BUT IS FIGHTING ON; HITLER, DUCE MEET TODAY TO SET TERMS; BRITISH STAND FIRM FOR WAR TO A FINISH". Almost the entire front page is reporting on the early days of WWII in Europe including reports that the French are admitting an inability to fight the Germans. Also included are reports from London including a Churchill quote: "...we shall fight on unconquerable until the curse of Hitler is lifted from the brows of men...". It was on this day that Churchill gave his famous "This was their finest hour" speech (not printed here).
Complete in 48 pages, very nice condition.
