NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, June 15, 1816

* A visit with Daniel Boone

An inside page has half a column headed: "Colonel Boone" which tells of a visit to Fort Osage, Missouri Territory, by Daniel Boone, including in part: "We have been honored by a visit from col. Boone, the first settler of Kentucky...He has established a colony or settlement...on the Missouri...The colonel cannot live without being in the woods. He goes a hunting twice a year to the remotest wilderness he can reach...Col. Boone is 85 years of age...stoutly made & active for one of his years..." with more (see).
Rare to find period mention of Daniel Boone in newspapers while he was still alive. This is one of just a few accounts we have found.
The front page & follow pages contain an interesting: "Copy of colonel G. Washington's letter to his Mother immediately after Braddock's defeat." (see for beginning)
Sixteen pages, 6 by 9 1/2 inches, good condition.
