October 30, 1781

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, October 30, 1781  Page 2 has a report from America noting: "...His Majesty has been please to promote Major Delancy...and first Aid de Camp to Sir Henry Clinton, to Adjutant General to the army in North America...The above appointment has been vacant ever since the death of the unfortunate & much lamented Major Andre." (see photos) who was involved in the traitorous conspiracy with Benedict Arnold.
Another page includes: "...a letter from Philadelphia dated the 6th of August which mentions that Lord Cornwallis being unable to support himself in Virginia, was going to embark with his infantry for New York; His cavalry under the command of General Tarleton is ordered to march to cover Charlestown [Charleston]. It is said that M de la Fayette has so harassed him by forced marches that he was obliged to retire & that his little army was much diminished when he arrived at Portsmouth...M. de la Fayette...has detached Generals Wayne & Morgan, who are to join General Greene & block up the English in Charlestown..."
