Page 2 contains a nice & very early report on the first discovery of: "Gold In California", including: "....fully confirming the wonderful accounts of the product of gold in that region...These accounts are said to be wonderful...The quantities daily dug up are very large. This vast bed of treasures was discovered by an accident. Suter [Sutter] was desirous of enlarging the race of his mill & permitted the stream of water to pour in & wash...The alluvial surface being this removed an extraordinary mosaic of gold was presented to the ravished eye..." with a bit more (see).
