June 02, 1813
COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, June 2, 1813   A nice issue on the War of 1812 with page 2 having half a column taken up with: "The Chesapeake Captured!" in its battle with the British ship Shannon. This was a major blow to the morale of the Americans. It was during this battle that the Cheapeake's wounded captain, James Lawrence, uttered the famous words "Don't give up the ship!" (not printed in this report) which became the rallying cry of American Navy. The same page has another report headed: "Chesapeake and Shannon" with several dispatches, each with the times noted, containing more up to day reports on the details of the naval battle (see).
A significant issue with detailed & timely reporting. Four pages, great condition.
