THE YORK COURANT, England, Sept. 5, 1780  Over a full column on the front page is taken up with: "American Intelligence", including in part: "...from Dutchess County that ever 4th man is ordered from thence to march immediately to Fort West with 8 days' provision; many of the militia refuse to go..." and "...the fullest contradiction to the report of any jealousies having appeared between Washington, his officers or men or the Congress; that Washington's plan was to keep on the defensive until favourable circumstances occurred; that the loss of Charles-Town [Charleston] was severely felt..." with so much more (see for portions).
Page 2 has a report from Baltimore that: "...from North Carolina & Virginia...the militia...were not turning out with great alacrity, wit a view of co-operating with the continental troops in checking the progress of the enemy under the command of the Earl Cornwallis who, having too far succeeded in South Carolina, were making rapid strides towards those counties of North Carolina which are unhappily disaffected to the United States..." & more.
