The entire front page is taken up with some excellent & detailed coverage of the first major battle of the Civil War. Among the first column heads are: "Disaster To The National Army" "Retreat of Gen. McDowell's Command From Manassas" "Full Details of the Engagement" "But 20,000 of the National Forces in Action" "90,000 Rebels In The Field" "The Retreat of Our Forces on the Eve of Victory" "A Panic Among the Teamsters & Civilians" "Exaggerated Statements of Our Losses" "General M'Clellan In Command" and even more. Various subheads throughout the page as well.
Included also is a little diagram of the roads in the vicinity.
The reports on Bull Run carry over to take much of the back page as well. The inside pages have related content also, including a lengthy editorial headed: "The Disaster in Virginia" and beginning: "There is no occasion to belittle the calamity which has fallen upon the country. The gallant Army of the Union has been routed & put to flight by the Army of the rebels..." (see for beginning).
Great to have this significant battle report in the venerable Times. Eight pages, very nice, clean condition.
