Early Kentucky newspaper...

Item # 586787

April 2, 1824

WESTERN MONITOR, Lexington, Kentucky, April 2, 1824

* Rare title

A quite rare & early newspaper from Lexington. Typical news & ads of the day. Page 2 includes: "Yesterday the President of the U. States presented to Gen. Jackson the Gold Medal, heretofore voted to him by Congress for his gallant defence of New Orleans...", which includes the acceptance speech of Andrew Jackson. Several illustrated horse ads, not surprising given Kentucky being famous for horse farms.
Four pages, archivally rejoined at the spine, some tape at the front page fold to flatten creases, close-trimmed at the affects some words on page 3 only, ornate masthead, otherwise nice.
