AMERICAN MERCURY, Hartford, May 12, 1818  The front page has 1 1/2 columns taken up with the official Act of Congress which created the state of Illinois, signed in type on April 18, 1818 by the President: James Monroe (see). Great to have this historic document on the front page.
Page 2 has "A Proclamation" signed in type by James Monroe & John Quincy Adams, and yet another Proclamation on pg. 3 signed by James Monroe. Also reports on battles with the Indians.
Four pages, very nice condition.
