PUBLIC LEDGER, Memphis, Tennessee, March 2, 1877 

* Rutherford B. Hayes declared election winner

Page 2 has a report headed: "Hayes And Wheeler Declared Elected" beginning: "The Republicans can now rest their fears & congratulate themselves upon accomplishing peaceably that which they expected at one time to do by the aid of the bayonet..." with more (see photos). This was a very contentious election against Samuel Tilden who actually won the popular vote. Also on pg. 2: "President Hayes" "His Arrival and Reception at Washington" "Preparations for the Inauguration on Monday".
Four pages, nice condition.
