* Battle of Spotsylvania
* Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's famous quote

Among the many front page one column heads on the Civil War are: "THE GREAT CONTEST" "Gen. Grant Says the Result is So Far Much in Our Favor" "He Will 'Fight it Out if it Takes All Summer' "Lee Sends in A Flag of Truce" "Gen Grant Refuses an Armistice" "Grant Pushing on to Find Them" "Gen. Butler's Movement" "Beauregard at Petersburg" "Butler Probably to Besiege the Place" and more.
One of the more famous military quotes was uttered by Grant during Battle of the Wilderness and is reported here in his message to General Dix: "We have now ended the sixth day of very heavy fighting...Our losses have been heavy...I think the loss of the enemy must be greater...I propose to fight it out on this line if it takes all summer."
