THE PENNSYLVANIA JOURNAL & THE WEEKLY ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, June 1, 1782 One of my favorite decorative mastheads of the Revolutionary War era (see). Page 2 has a letter from Amsterdam beginning: "We are happy in communicating to you that this whole nation now unite with one voice in the most urgent manner for the acknowledgement of the independence of American by our states...and Mr. John Adams will be received as public minister..." and a bit further on also from Amsterdam: "About six weeks since the Province of Friesland resolved the United States of America Free and Independent..." with additional reports on this (see).
Page 3 includes an address of the people of New York to Sir Guy Carleton, beginning: "The inhabitants of the city of New York beg leave to congratulate your Excellency on your appointments to the command of his Majesty's forces in America...". Page 3 has: "...that the town [Charleston] was so closely beset by General Greene that provisions were grown very scarce..." as well as a letter signed in type by: Guy Carleton concerning his appointment to the command of the forces in America (see). There is also a letter signed in type by: G. Washington (see).
Four pages, slightly irregular at the spine margin, period numerical notations at the top of the front page, very nice, clean condition.
