A newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy. The prime content on the ftpg. would be: "Brute Butler's Explanation of His Infamous Order", which was his order #28 given two months earlier, referring to the women of New Orleans as "women of the town, plying their avocation...". Butler took considerable criticism for this order.
Among the front page items are: "The Enemy" "The Strength of the Army" "Latest From the North" "From Lincolndom" "The American Question in Europe" "Manassas Day" & other smaller items. The back page has: "The Yankees at Beaver Dam Station" "From the Valley" "A Skirmish in Orange County" plus a note signed in type by: Jefferson Davis. Also: "Deserters From the Enemy" "Revolutions Never Go Backwards" "Confederate Prisoners" "The Fight at Murfreesboro, Tennessee" "The Late Affair in Culpeper" and more.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead, various wear at the folds & margins with some loss, and various archival mends at folds. Offered as a "2nd rate" newspaper, but with fine content.
