August 30, 1775
THE PENNSYLVANIA GAZETTE, Philadelphia, Aug. 30, 1775  Taking parts of the front page & page 2 is the continuation of "A Speech intended to have been delivered in the House of Commons in Support of the American Congress' Petition to the King" which begins: "Both Houses of Parliament have resolved that colonists may be tried in England for offences alleged to have been committed in America..." with much more.
A pg. 2 report from "Watertown" mentions the arrival of Swashan, the Indian chief & others of the St. Francois tribe: "...to offer their service in the cause of American liberty...". Below this is a list of promotions made by "His Excellency General Washington". Also a detailed report about an engagement at Cape-Anne. A letter from a British officer describes an attack on the battery at New York by local citizens who were acting on orders from the Provincial Congress to remove the cannons from the battery (see photos). On pg. 3 under "Baltimore" is word that the inhabitants of "York Town", Pennsylvania: "...in support and defense of our inestimable rights & liberties, have now formed a battalion of 500 minute men...ready to march...as may be deemed necessary for the protection & defence of these colonies..." and much more about the meeting at York, with names of various militia officers. From "Philadelphia" it says: "We hear that Dr. FRANKLIN has been lately honoured by the Infanta of Spain with a volume of that Prince's works...". Another report mentions that: "The Hon. Peyton Randolf, Richard Henry Lee, Benjamin Harrison, George Wythe, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Nelson & Francis Lightfoot Lee, Esquires, are appointed Delegates by the Virginia Provincial Convention to represent that colony in the Continental Congress...".
Very minor archival mend to a blank margin of the back leaf, browning at the left side does not affect readability. Complete in 4 pages and untrimmed margins, nice coat-of-arms engraving in the masthead. Some fine content from the beginning months of the Revolutionary War.
