Item # 583644
November 12, 1864
ARMY & NAVY JOURNAL, New York, Nov. 12, 1864 As noted in the masthead this was the: "Gazette of The Regular & Volunteer Forces" and as such is replete with military news of all sorts. The ftpg. is entirely taken up with: "The Campaign In Georgia" and: "The Campaign In Virginia" giving the latest reports on battle events.
Other reports inside are headed: "The Capture of the Florida" "General Scott's Memoirs" "The Rebel Accounts" "A Glance at the Bayonet" "The Theatre of War" "and more. There is also a nice editorial headed: "The Presidential Election" which includes in part: "Thirty-two years have passed since the Nation has conferred on one of its Presidents that highest token of approval...a re-election to the Chief Magistracy. On the 8th of November, 1864, that long intermitted honor fell upon Abraham Lincoln...Four stormy years have passed over the nation since the President first took his chair...four years filled with concentrated horrors of civil war, with rapine, devastation, ruined fortunes, deserted hearthstones, with tears, blood, broken hearts with a hundred thousand graves..." and more (see).
Sixteen pages, 10 3/4 by 15 1/4 inches, nice eagle in the masthead, an ink stain near the top, generally nice.
