THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 17, 1862

* Battle of Shiloh - Pittsburg Landing
* Ulysses S. Grant's official report
* Slavery abolished in D.C.

The first column on the ftpg. has many Civil War heads including: "Grant's Official Report of the Battle at Pittsburgh Landing" "The Fighting on the Second Day Commenced by Our Forces" "Gen. Grant's Correspondence with Beauregard" "A Cavalry Reconnaissance on the Corinth Road" "Additional List of Wounded" "Commodore Foote & Gen. Pope at Fort Pillow" and more.
Nearly a full column is taken up with General Grant's official report with accompanying documents, signed in type by him: U. S. Grant (see photos for portions), plus other documents which are signed by: P. G. T. Beauregard, U. S. Grant, and W. T. Sherman. Over half of the ftpg. is taken up with a very lengthy: "Partial List of Wounded" at Shiloh (Confederate name for the battle), known in the North as the battle of Pittsburgh Landing.
Also, the back page has a very significant report: "The Abolition of Slavery in the District of Columbia" "The Bill for that Purpose Signed by the President" with the actual text of the "Message From the President" included & signed by him in type: Abraham Lincoln (see). This Act ended slavery in the nation's capital, celebrated as a holiday in Washington, D.C. to this day. There is a related editorial on this on page 4 as well.
Complete in 8 pages, nice condition.
