THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 25, 1859 This 8 page newspaper has a very significant report on the back page concerning the very 1st airmail delivery for the United Post Office by balloonist John Wise.
Small headings near the bottom of page 8 read: "Mr. Wise's Last balloon Ascension" and "Scientific Observations In Mid-Air". See photos for text. A few printing flaws causes minor text loss as seen in the photos.
Other news of the day including a pre Civil War baseball game on page 5. Nice condition.
wikipedia notes: John Wise (24 February 1808 – 28 September 1879?) was a pioneer in the field of ballooning. He made over 400 flights during his lifetime and was responsible for several innovations in balloon design.
