June 18, 1861
THE DAILY JOURNAL, Wilmington, North Carolina, June 18, 1861
* Battle of Big Bethel in Virginia
* Confederate victory in rebel title
This is one of just a few newspapers which printed "Confederates States Of America" in the dateline (see photos). The front page is entirely taken up with ads. Page 2 has some nice war-related content including: "The Evacuation of Harper's Ferry" "The German Volunteers" "Melancholy Accident--Death of a Volunteer" "One Thousand Federal Troops said to be Killed & Wounded" at Bethel Bridge; "General Henningsen" & a few other smaller items.
Page 3 is mostly taken up with ads but does have 2 columns which includes: "Proceedings of the North Carolina State Convention". The bkpg. is filled with ads.
Four pages, very nice, clean condition.
