July 06, 1749
THE PENNSYLVANIA GAZETTE, Philadelphia, July 6, 1749  This is perhaps one of the most famous newspapers of the colonial era almost entirely because it was printed by Benjamin Franklin, as indicated by the imprint at the bottom of page 4 which lists him by name, and identifies him as the Postmaster as well: "Printed by B. FRANKLIN, Post-Master, and D. HALL..." (see).
Franklin's imprint appeared in the Penna. Gazette thru 1765. This is the earliest dated Gazette we have sold with the Franklin imprint in many years. Most of those we've sold in the past have been from the early 1760's, with a few from the 1750's.
A very special bonus with this issue is the frame in which it comes. Someone custom-made a swing-open oak frame with the newspaper double matted, allowing the full print area of pages 4 and 1 to be visible with the frame "closed" (the Franklin imprint appears at the bottom of page 4), and all of pages 2 and 3 visible when the frame is "opened". A piano hinge makes it easy to open for full viewing (see).
Complete in 4 pages and both the frame and the newspaper are in excellent condition. The frame measures 18 in. tall by 21 in. wide. A great opportunity for a Franklin imprint ready to hang on the wall.
