DAILY EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, Jan. 10, 1865

* Rare Confederate title from the rebel capital
* Late in the Civil War - nearing the end

A newspaper not only from the Confederacy, but from the capital of the Confederate states. The front page has the always interesting editorial, beginning with: "It is natural that the people of Augusta, Columbus, Macon and Atlanta should now be looking with some interest at the dealings of Sherman with the captured city of Savannah..." with much more concerning the work of Sherman in Georgia (see). The front page also has much reporting from the "Confederate States Congress" and also has: "The Virginia Legislature" "Latest News From The North" with various subheads: "From Savannah--Sherman Preparing for Another Campaign--Stanton Gone South for Consultation--The Cotton Captured at Savannah--From Ho0od's Army" and more. Also: "The Yankee Congress and "Reports From Savannah--What the Yankees Are Doing" & a few smaller items.
The back page includes: "Casualties in the Battle of Franklin" "The War News--From South Carolina--Supplies & the Railroads--The Exchange Question" "City Intelligence" and some smaller items as well as many advertisements.
complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead, somewhat common in the South late in the war as most paper mills were in the North. the upper right corner has some loss causing loss of text but not to any mentioned reports. Some portions are lightly inked but still very readable. Otherwise in nice condition.
