This newspaper has a very decorative masthead featuring the territorial commerce of Montana, which didn't become a state until 1889. All columns on pages 2, 3, 6 & 7 are black-bordered due to the death of President James Garfield, with page 2 featuring: "Death Of The President" "The Sad Event Occurs at 10:35 P.M. 19th" "His Last Moments as Reported from Elberon" "Expressions of Sympathy from Gen. Grant" and more (see). There is also a lengthy editorial headed: "Our Dead President" and related reports carrying over to page 3, 6 & 7.
Complete in eight pages, minor loss at the top margin of the front leaf causing no text loss, but otherwise in very nice condition.
