THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, June 22, 1776

* General William Howe pardon for deserters
* Revolutionary War original from the enemy

Dated less than 2 weeks before the Declaration of Independence. A nice article inside begins: "I wrote when the packet sailed from hence, on the King's troops evacuating it since which time I have had no opportunity till now...on the 2nd of April 5 battalions marched to the southward in order to support such colonies as might be attacked...It is said here that General Lee is a good deal displeased at the General Congress because of their remitting him money so sparingly for the use of the army so that he can with difficulty keep the soldiers from murmuring..." and more, including: "...a regiment is raising here to be called the Loyal Nova Scotia Volunteers and Gen. Howe has issued a proclamation offering a free pardon to all deserters who will surrender before the 24th of June & enter into the said corps..." and more.

The back page includes text of a proclamation offering bounties for those seaman who would sign up in his Majesty's royal navy (see photos).

Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches, and in very nice condition.
