June 05, 1790

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, June 5, 1790  The back page has a first report of the death of the venerable Benjamin Franklin, headed: "Death Of Dr. Franklin" The full report takes over a full column & is shown in the photos, with the text beginning: "On the 17th of April the great and good Dr. Franklin finished his useful life at Philadelphia..." with more. Also included is: "...Three days before he died, he begged that his bed might be made, that he might die in a decent manner. His daughter told him she hoped he would recover, & live many years longer. He replied, 'he hoped not'..." and much more.
This event has always been among the most desired death reports among collectors, and for good reason. We rarely have the opportunity to offer a contemporary report of Franklin's death. With the report on the back page it lends itself nicely for display, as the issue can be opened to show both the front page & back page.
Complete in 8 pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches, red ink stamp, minor browning at the top of the back page (see images), ery nice condition.
