THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, February 21, 1918  Here is probably what may be the holy grail of Notre Dame football reporting. This 22 page newspaper has small one column headlines near the bottom of page 12: "NEW NOTRE DAME COACH" "Rockne Appointed to Succeed Harper as Athletic Director" which tells of the hiring of Knute Rockne as the new coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish college football team. Rockne would put Notre Dame on the map as a football powerhouse.
Sport's reporting in these days was very bland in appearance giving the reason for this small and somewhat discrete report here.
I have tried finding this report in other major city titles and found that it was not reported making me believe that the New York Times may be one of the few titles to have such a report on this.

Other news of the day with much on World War I. Issues from this time period are usually in poor and brittle condition. However this issue is in surprisingly good condition with light browning, little margin wear, mainly along spine, otherwise in good condition.
