November 10, 1659
MERCURIUS POLITICUS, London, Nov. 10, 1659  Here is an uncommon title in newsbook format (the forerunner of newspapers), the full title including: "...Comprising the sum of Foreign Intelligence, with the Affairs now on foot in the Three Nations Of England, Scotland & Ireland For Information of the People" as printed in the masthead.
The front page has a naval report which begins: "The master of the ship which came from Alicante...saith that 3 Turks Men of War in the streights have sunk a great Spanish Man of War of six and thirty guns...and took 2 Dutch merchants ships which were under his convoy..."  with more.
Most of the remaining pages have various reports of military events in Europe. Another page has: "A Proclamation Inhibiting all Meetings for the Raising or drawing together of Forces without order of the said Committee, or the Lord Fleetwood."
Other news reports of the day and some ads near the back of the issue. Complete in 16 pages, measures 7 by 8 1/2 inches, very wide margins, very nice condition. Increasingly rare to find any periodicals from the middle of the 17th century.
