January 08, 1848

THE FLORIDIAN, Tallahassee, Florida, January 8, 1848

* Very rare pre Civil War Southern title
* Many slave advertisements

Nineteenth century newspapers from Florida are uncommon, particularly those from before the Civil War. Here is such an issue from the capital city of Florida, three years before the Civil War.
The ftpg. is entirely taken up with reports on the "State Of the Commonwealth", carrying over to take all of pg. 2 as well. Page 3 includes: "Bounty Land to Volunteers" and many ads, one of which is quite lengthy & headed: "Valuable Land and Negroes for Sale", pus a smaller ad: "Sale of Negroes" and another: "Fifty Dollars Reward" for a runaway slave (see image).
The bkpg. is filled with ads, several of which are illustrated. Four pages, a bit irregular at the spine margin, very nice condition.
