August 25, 1862

CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, South Carolina, August 25, 1862  This was one of only a few newspapers which printed: "Confederate States of America" in the dateline (see). The ftpg. includes: "From Richmond--Skirmish at Raccoon Ford--Thirty of the Enemy Killed & Seventy Captured--Pope's Army on the Retreat" "Retreat  of Pope's Army Confirmed--Attempt to Blow Up the Rail Road Bridge--Surprise & Capture of the Guard...--Situation of Affairs Highly Encouraging" "From Petersburg--Highly Important Northern Intelligence--Latest from Pope's Army--McClellan's Movements--Arrival of His Army at  Newport News, Hampton & Fortress Monroe--Butler Relieved of the Command of New  Orleans" "Federal Evacuation of Baton Rouge" "News from  Stono" "Rebel Audacity Rebuked" "Yankee Insolence" and a few other items.
Page 2 has a few small items relating to the war & page 3 is entirely taken up with ads. The bkpg. has:"Confederate Congress" "The President's Threat of Resigning" "Gen. Benham Dismissed" "The Blockade" "Soldiers' Discharges" and a few other smaller items.
Complete in 4 pages, never bound nor trimmed (desired), very nice condition.
