THE SALEM GAZETTE, Dec. 22, 1848 The front pate has 1 1/2 columns taken up with: "The Way To California" with subheads: "The Town of Chagres" "Its Climate" "Trade at Chagres" "River Journal" "The Accommodations for Travelers" & "Journey Across the Isthmus" providing some great reading. Also, page two has two columns of great reporting under the heading: "The California Gold" with subheads: "The Gold Fever on the Decline" "The Best Route" "Take a Pinch of Gold?" and "The Gold Region". Simply terrific reading, just too much to relate here. The photos show only portions.
Four pages, close-trimmed at the bottom of pg. 1 only affects the last line, and a piece from the lower right of the first leaf causes some loss to the noted ftpg. article (see).
