NEW YORK DAILY TRIBUNE, Feb. 15, 1849

* Early California Gold Rush
* Original San Francisco 49ers

Page two has reports "From California" which talk about the gold situation, including: "...have been living on shore at San Francisco now two weeks & have had ample opportunity for examining the subject & I am more than ever satisfied that the disposal of the Gold Regions in the Territory of California is the best...".

Included also is a letter from a young man to his parents, including: "...when I heard of what you have perhaps herd of before now, that is, the gold mines in Upper California, which is true. As soon as I heard of it, I shipped for Monterey. As soon as I arrived in Monterrey I set out for the gold mines...I stopped a couple of days at the mines & picked up about an ounce of pure gold; it is not uncommon for a man that has worked 3 or 4 weeks at it to dig from four ounces to a pound of gold a day..." and more.

Four pages, nice condition.
