February 11, 1815

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, February 11, 1815

* New Orleans, Louisiana victory
* War of 1812 original reading

Beginning on pg. 4 is a lengthy report taking over a page headed: "Events Of the War - Glorious From New Orleans" which includes the official report on the current successes of the American forces at New Orleans signed in type by: Andrew Jackson (see). This report is followed by additional text concerning the battle of New Orleans, including another lengthy letter on the final events of the battle signed in type: Andrew Jackson.

Again, coverage on New Orleans continues to flow over to succeeding pages with considerable detail with about half of the entire issue dealing with New Orleans.

Ironically this battle was not necessary as the Treaty of Ghent ending the War of 1812 had been signed two weeks previous to the battle. Yet, the battle caused Andrew Jackson to become a national hero and a future President, and also did much to restore the badly battered American national pride.

Sixteen pages, 6 by 9 1/2 inches, great condition.
