GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, August, 1757

* Rare 18th century issue w/ outer wrappers
* Foldout map with print/plate

A very nice magazine from during the French & Indian War from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
The prime feature of this issue would be it's state: it still has the original blue/green outer wrappers just as it was sold to the subscribers over 250 years ago--and in great condition. Very rare to find as such as wrappers were almost always removed when bound into annual volumes. Never trimmed as well, so original deckle edge with wide margins. The outer wrapper also has a engraving of St. John's Gate (see).
Articles within this issue include: "Melvill's Observations on Light & Colours" "Curious Discoveries at Herculaneum" "Scheme of an Hospital for Repenting Prostitutes" and more.
Both plates called for are present, one being a very nice foldout map titled: "Map of that Part of Hanover where the late Battle Between the Duke of Cumberland & Marshal D'Etrees was fought, July 25, 26, 27" which folds out to 8 1/2 by 10 1/4 inches, in great condition.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" with various news of the day.
Complete in 48 pages, measures 6 by 9 inches, has the interior full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate. Terrific condition with original string binding.
