THE EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, August 10, 1776  Page 2 has various items on the Revolutionary War including a situation with the American troops in Canada and General Washington pardoning a man sentenced to death (see for details); also a letter with military reports from near Quebec. Also mention that; "...recent deaths in New England are copied from an American paper: Mrs. Hancock, who early in life adopted the present celebrated president of the Congress for her son..." (see).

Page 3 has an item: "...received that the people of Maryland, disapproving of the proceedings of the General Congress, have thrown down their arms & submitted to the laws of the mother country..." and also: "...that Sir Peter Parker, General Clinton & Lord Cornwallis...had left Cape Fear River in North Carolina & proceeded to the southward...supposed that they are gone to South Carolina or Georgia..." and a letter from Montreal notes: "...the rebels left this town after plundering all the merchants. They intended a general plunder but the approach of the troops set them off..." with much more, including mention of General Washington (see).
