October 21, 1820

CHARLESTON COURIER, Charleston, South Carolina October 21, 1820

* Illustrated slave woman ad
* Rare title from the South

The front page has a notice offering a "Twenty Dollars Reward" for runaway "...Negro Woman named Amey, aged about 45 years, of rather yellow complexion, much pitted with small-pox..." & several other details. Includes an engraving of a female runaway, larger than most of the ones we've seen. Entire ad, which measures 2 by 2 3/4 inches, is also larger than the usual runaway notice. Very uncommon to have a notice about a runaway female slave, especially with an engraving.

Other slave ads and news of the day. Light browning with minor margin wear, otherwise in good condition. Should be handled with care.
