December 30, 1773

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, December 30, 1773 Page 2 has a nice item concerning the troubling tea situation in America, being an: "Extract of a Letter from a Gentleman in Philadelphia to his Correspondent in Boston..." which reports: "Our people are alarmed at the scheme of shipping tea to the Colonies by the East India Company; I have not known so sudden and so universal an appearance of discontent. We are to have a general meeting this week to concert measures to defeat the scheme & in all probability it will be impossible to land it here without throwing us into the most violent convulsions...should they not gratify their fellow citizens by declaring they will not receive the tea, in a few days you may expect to hear of the most resolute measures. Nothing can check our spirit unless we find ourselves deserted by our neighbours...The agents appointed by the East India Company for the sale of their teas here are determined to have nothing to do with so pernicious a business..." (see).
A great item which gave hints to the Boston Tea Party yet to come.
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches, nice condition.
