THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, October, 1751

* Moses and the Bible

Over three pages are taken up with a report on Moses from the Bible as he relates to beliefs among the Jews (see for the beginning).
Another full page is taken up with a print of: "An Accurate Engine for Weighing Road Carriages" with a related article.

Other items in this issue include: "Subterranean Geography, three Bands" "Mankind, the Offspring of God" "Moon's Eclipse & Transit" "Irish Hospitality, Love, and Poetry" "Miraculous Cure by anointing with Holy Oil in Faith" and much more.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports from throughout Europe. Included is a report with a "Kingston in Jamaica" dateline.
The issue also contains (not shown in the images) a very interesting & large foldout plate of: "A Self-Moving Wheel", being a perpetual motion machine. This plate folds out to measure 7 3/4 by 10 inches and is in overall nice condition, but close-trimming has caused loss of title and about 1/2 inch of the lower portion of the print.  A photocopy of the entire print is included. A related article is present as well. Yet another plate contains engravings of 8 antique lamps, with a related article.
Complete in 48 pages, measures 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
