LONDON MAGAZINE, England, February, 1759 This issue features a rather unique fold-out engraving (see photos) showing an execution of certain conspirators, which occurred at Lisbon. The caption at the top of the engraving reads: "The manner of the Execution of the Conspirators at Lisbon, Jan. 13th, 1759. Engraved from an Original Drawing. Made on the Spot." The small inset shows one of the conspirators "...as fastened on the cross on which his limbs were broke alive." There are references for the engraving, with one of the platform objects described as "The instrument of iron with which the criminal limbs were broken." Has details about the individuals who were executed for the assassination of the King of Portugal. An account of the assassination appears in another part of this issue, with mention that "...the Jesuits, were the principal instigators and actors in this conspiracy..." The plate measures 8 1/4 by 10 3/8 inches and is in good condition. A very unusual engraving.
Measures 5 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches, 52 pages, a full title/contents pg. with a view of London in the masthead, and in great condition. Lacking two additional plates called for.
