SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, New York., Aug. 6, 1898

* 1st automobile advertisement (historic)...  2nd appearance...
* Horseless carriage

A very significant magazine in the history of automobiles, as the reference book "Kane's Famous First Facts" notes that the mentioned advertisement was the very first automobile ad published in America. It's very first appearance was in the issue of a week prior, but the ad is very similar.

A back page advertisement is headed: "Better than Horse or Bicycle", mentioning that: "The Winton Motor Carriage...is of pleasing design, finished in Brewster green, with leather cushions and nickel trimmings..." and that a price list is: "...free on application." with more (see). The ad measures 2 1/8 by 2 3/8 inches and is at the top of the first column on the page.

This is only the 2nd appearance of such an ad.

Other topics with photos, illustrations and text throughout. Nice condition, 16 pages.
