THE SOUTH, Baltimore, August 23, 1861

* From the North but with some Confederate sympathies
* Rare Civil War title

A somewhat short-lived newspaper from the early part of the Civil War and from the North but which held many Southern sympathies, hence the title. This is the volume 1, number 105 issue.

The front page has much on: "The British Premier on the Northern Army & Press" which is not surprising as England was a Southern supporter during the Civil War, fearing the loss of the important cotton trade. The ftpg. also has some war-related item, and many ads.

Inside pages have: "Their Oaths" "We Think So" "The Affair at Mathias Point" "From East Tennessee" "Federal Invasion of Charles County" "The Blockade" "From Missouri" and more. Some war-related item carry over to the back page.

Complete in 4 pages, never bound nor trimmed, minor edge wear, very nice condition.
