This was one of just a few newspapers from during the Civil War which printed: "Confederate States of America" in the dateline (see).
Among the front page items are: "From Vicksburg--Movements of the Enemy's Iron-Clads--Unsuccessful Attempt to Destroy the Steamer Vicksburg--Yankee "Army Under Grant & MCClernand 50,000 to 60,000 Strong--General Grant in Command" "Blockade Goods" "Wounded South Carolinians in the Hospitals at Atlanta" "A Letter from Dr. Bachman--A Visit to the Army of the West"--The Clothing of the Soldiers--The Hospitals...".

Page 2 has a black-bordered report of the death of "Hon. Henry Laurens Pinckney", a U.S. Representative from South Carolina who died in Charleston the day before. Page 2 also has an item on "The Blockade" and "The Brilliant Naval Victories".

The back page has more on the Civil War with: "Vicksburg" which begins: "It appears, says the Vicksburg Citizen, that the trouble among the Yankees is increasing in regard to the attack on this city...". Also: "The Port of Charleston" "Port of Charleston Opened" "Legislature of South Carolina" and more.

Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, some scattered foxing, generally in nice condition.
