January 29, 1891

THE DAILY CITIZEN, Albuquerque, New Mexico Territory, January 29, 1891  Nineteenth century newspapers from New Mexico Territory (became a state in 1912) rank among the most difficult to find from the Western states. Here is a great issue from the famous city, published 21 years before statehood.

Among the front page items is: "Jesse James' Slayer" which begins: "Bob Ford, the young Missourian who became famous because he took advantage of Jesse James and killed him, was a principal in a shooting scrape at Walsenberg, Col..." and further on is: "A short time after the killing of Jesse James, Ford and Liddle, both former members of the bandit's gang, came onto Las Vegas, where they started a saloon..." and more (see).

Other news of the day and a wealth of ads. Four pages, folio size, in surprisingly nice condition, not pulpish nor fragile.
