THE ST. JAMES'S CHRONICLE, London, Aug. 4, 1764
* Benjamin Frankin mention from before the Revolutionary War
* Rare 18th century British title
The top of the ftpg. has a brief yet historically very significant item: "Stamp Duty in America, we are told, will be imposed next sessions. An Act is passed to prevent any of his Majesty's American Colonies from issuing paper money to be a tender in payment...is postponed till next session."
Page 3 has a report headed: "America" with reports of troubles with Indians in Virginia (see), but the more interesting item is the page 2 mention that: "Benjamin Franklin, Esq. is chosen Speaker of the Assembly House at Pennsylvania, in the room of Isaac Norris, Esq. who has resigned on account of his ill state of health." (see) Unusual to find such political mentions of Franklin from so long before the Revolutionary War.
Four pages, folio size, some browning at an upper corner, nice condition.
