THE PRESENT STATE OF EUROPE OR THE HISTORICAL & POLITICAL MONTHLY MERCURY, London, December, 1694
* Death of Queen Mary II
* Rare 17th century periodical
This is a very uncommon periodical, formatted something like a pamphlet but definitely a periodical, with the more extended title reading: "... Giving an Account of all the Publick and Private Occurrences, Civil, Ecclesiastical, and Military, that are most considerable in every Court: The Interest of Princes, their Pretensions, and Intrigues, etc."(see photo).
This issue includes a full title page, and within there are 38 pages of reports from throughout Europe giving the latest news items of the day. Included within is "Advice from England" which includes two letters noting the death of Queen Mary II, both offering condolences including: "...with inexpressible grief, humbly assure your Majesty of the deep sense we have of the loss your Majesty & the whole kingdom doth sustain by the death of that Excellent Princess, our Sovereign Lady the QUEEN..." with more (see). Certainly an early report as Queen Mary died on December 28. And great to have this report in a British periodical.
Some damp staining, worm holes more so in the back leaves, scattered foxing, measures 6 1/4 by 7 3/4 inches. Very nice condition.
