THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, January 2, 1781
* Portsmouth, Virginia
Almost the entire ftpg. is taken up with reports of events in the Caribbean, carrying over to take much of pg. 2 as well.
An inside page has over a full column taken up with a letter from Portsmouth, Virginia, mentioning various events there including: "...Our troops never fired a gun...we lay here under arms until day when we proceeded...letters from Virginia mention that Portsmouth is a horrid place, but the country round it beautiful...We are making Portsmouth a very strong garrison...shall proceed up James River; we have met with little opposition at present..." and more, including a list of prizes & produce taken by General Leslie's troops in Virginia (see).
The back page has a letter from New York which includes: "...landed on Staten island from the Jerseies & marched about five miles from the shore into the country...began to plunder, seizing all the cattle & a great quantity of wheat...Immediately on their landing, they sent a vessel to Long island for reinforcements..." with much more good reading on the military events in New York (see).
Complete in e pages, a few small worm holes at the bottom left do affect some words but cause no loss in readability. Otherwise nice condition.
