HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, July 2, 1864
* Rare Robert E. Lee front page portrait
* Civil War prints
The front page of this issue features a nice, full-length portrait (see) of: "The Rebel General Robert Edmund Lee." The portrait measures 9 1/8 by 6 3/8 inches. There is also a textual sketch of Lee headed: "Gen. Robert Edmund Lee." Note: Lee's middle name was actually Edward.
Inside has a full page with four scenes: "General Sherman's Campaign." There is also a halfpg: "Gen. Sherman's Campaign-- Gen. Hooker's Escort Charging Through The Woods." The sewn-in double page centerfold is captioned: "Gen. Sherman's Campaign-- The Rebel Assault On Logan's Position In The Battle At Dallas, May 28, 1864." A full page map shows Sherman's advance on Atlanta. Another page has two illustrations: "The Escaped Slave" & "The Escaped Slave In The Union Army", each measuring about 6 3/4 by 4 1/2 inches. Other war-related prints throughout the issue.
Complete in 16 pages, centerfold has a few tiny binding holes at the fold, otherwise in nice condition.
