LOUISVILLE DAILY COURIER, Louisville, Kentucky, May 17, 1861
* Rare Confederate title
* Civil War original
Rather difficult to get truly Confederate papers from this city as Louisville fell to the Yankees in mid-September, 1861.
The front page has reports headed: "Army Correspondence--Midnight Bivouac--Preparation for Attack" "Letter from Frankfort--Armed Neutrality..." "Letter From Clarksville" "Rumored Demonstrations near Washington" "Important From Montgomery" "Arrival of Troops..." and more.
Page 2 has: "The War" and other news items, plus many ads. Included is a lengthy ad headed: "1,000 Slaves Wanted by Hire or by Purchase" (see).
Page 3 is entirely taken up with ads, sand the back page has: "Progress Of Events!" "Arrest of a Southern Commissioner" "Col. Anderson In Cincinnati" "Movements of General Butler!" and other items, plus many ads as well.
Complete in four pages which is archivally rejoined at the spine, otherwise quite nice.
